Gospel Group The McCrary Sisters
Honors the Spirit of the Holiday Season With
Two New Recordings:
“Go Tell It On The Mountain” and “No Room at the Inn”
To Be Released Via Rounder November 2, 2018
October 10, 2018 – Nashville, TN – On November 2, beloved Nashville gospel music group the McCrary Sisters – Ann, Alfreda, Deborah, and Regina McCrary – will release their first recording for Rounder. The two-song digital single featuring the spiritual “Go Tell It On the Mountain” and the Christmas classic “No Room at the Inn” was produced by three-time GRAMMY winner Scott Billington.
The songs reflect the sisters’ deep faith and honor the memory of their father, the Reverend Sam McCrary, who was the pastor at the historic St. Mark Baptist Church in Nashville and a member of famed gospel group The Fairfield Four.
Ann McCrary said, “‘No Room At the Inn’ is a song that I recorded on my first solo CD. It’s a song that I used to hear The Fairfield Four sing when I was a little girl, and it always amazed me the way they made their harmonies sound like instruments. We chose this song to pay homage to my father and The Fairfield Four.”
“That is what we are all about: to minster of the word of God through song,” said Regina McCrary of “Go Tell It On the Mountain.” “Everywhere and anywhere God sends us is where we are going. Being an ordained minister, it’s very exciting for me to stand on the mountain, on the corner, on the stage, and spread the news that Jesus, Mary’s baby, the great Messiah, is born, and he’s going to save us, and teach us how to love, forgive, and come together: all of God’s children, no matter who you are.”
Scott Billington responds, “There’s something both old and very up-to-date in the way the sisters approached these classic songs. ‘Go Tell It on the Mountain’ is a mashup with the Staple Singers’ ‘Respect Yourself,’ an idea that came to me in a dream. We were thrilled to have access to the original ‘Respect Yourself’ tapes, which allowed us to use a percussion sample from this classic recording. The sisters took it home with a beautiful vocal arrangement and the kind of phrasing and harmony that only siblings can deliver. Ann and Regina share lead vocals.”
